Our RSE approach
At Stubbings, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum for our children that also involves a comprehensive RSE (relationships and sex education) and Health scheme of work.
Relationships Education (Relationships and Sex Education in KS2) is learnt in a progression of lessons from Reception to Year 2 at Stubbings and into KS2 at Riverside. We have a single RSE approach / curriculum to make sure that our children encounter this learning in the right order at the right time.
We use the Jigsaw PSHE scheme to support this learning. The PSHE programme content has now been updated and is fully compliant with the new DfE RSHE guidance for England (2025).
Overview
Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) does not exist in isolation. It forms a vital part of a school's wider curriculum offer, sitting naturally within Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) and contributing significantly to every school's Personal Development expectations.
Effective RSHE supports children to:
• Develop the knowledge and skills they need to keep themselves safe
• Build positive, healthy relationships with family, friends and the wider community
• Understand their own physical and emotional development
• Make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing
• Prepare for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life
This learning about themselves and the world around them is essential. It underpins children's ability to achieve their goals, stay safe, navigate challenges and thrive – both now and as they grow into adulthood.
How can you support your child?
Have a look at the overview for your child’s year group to familiarise your self with the content and key vocabulary.
If you have any questions please talk to your child’s class teacher.
The RSE programme is delivered during the second half of the summer term and we communicate with parents before the start date to fully inform parents and carers how the scheme will be delivered.
